Honda GL1100 Goldwing Silicon Rectifier - Voltage Regulator 31700-124-003

Silicon rectifier for the GL1100 Gold Wing, Honda part number 31700-124-003. The rectifier converts the alternator's AC output into the DC that charges the battery; when its diodes fail the battery stops charging, the headlight dims at idle and the bike eventually dies on the road. It is one of the most common electrical failures on a 40-year-old GL1100 and a simple bolt-on repair.

Tips

Before replacing, check the stator output (AC volts between the yellow wires at 3,000 rpm) so you are not replacing a good rectifier for a failed stator. If charging voltage is too high rather than too low, the regulator — not the rectifier — is the usual culprit. Clean the ground and connector contacts and apply dielectric grease on assembly.
